Magazines

Maybe it's because as a child, owner David Landis has always been mesmerized by books, comics and magazines. (Or, perhaps he accidentally inhaled too much ink while working at a print shop early in his career.) Regardless, Landis Productions has a passion for the printed page.

It is no accident that a successful design has the ability to pull a reader's eye around a document. Font usage, graphic design and the stunning power of "white space" are all parts of this visual puzzle. In addition, the technology of getting ink on paper is a fascinating science in itself. From paper selection to ink mixture and even the use of matte or glossy coatings—tactile choices such as these add another layer possibilities for effective communication.

If you are searching for a vendor of magazine graphic design, you've certainly come to the right place. With almost two decades of experience – specifically creating pre-press designs of magazines – Landis Productions is the perfect choice as your vendor.

We have worked with a variety of clients when performing pre-press design/layout and have proven that geography is no longer a barrier production. For example, we currently work with Catalina Yachts to produce their Catalina owners magazine. This quarterly publication (named Catalina Mainsheet) is 100-pages in length and contains feature articles, officer comments and a pre-drilled and removable section of technical notes. But what makes this production cycle truly unique is the fact that the pre-press production is performed in Richmond – while the editors reside in Georgia, Catalina Yachts is located in Florida, each issue is printed in Canada and editorial content is provided from 46 editors from around the globe. This style of production would not be possible without an expert and precise PDF workflow. And in addition to eliminating geographic distances, it speeds production and allows for last-minute changes.

Whether creating a 12-page newsletter or a 100-page glossy magazine, we always try to infuse years of appreciation of this tangible form of communication into eye-popping design solutions.

  • Catalina Mainsheet
Catalina Mainsheet Magazine is a quarterly publication averaging 100 pages in length. It features 64 pages of Features and Class News as well as a 32 page Technical Notes Supplement.
  • KLEOS Magazine
KLEOS was first published in 1989 in Richmond, Virginia. The founder visualized the need for businesses to tell their stories the way they wanted them to be told. The result is an award winning annual magazine featuring some of the area's most respected businesses. The editorial profiles of intriguing business people combined with captivating photography has resulted in the exclusive yearbook consistently experiencing growth and profitability. KLEOS has truly become a symbol of excellence in Richmond business.
  • LaVoz Hispana De Virginia
LaVoz Hispana De Virginia was an interesting challenge because it had glossy 4-color covers, but budget only allowed a grayscale interior during its fledgling issues. Artists Joshua Barber and David Landis developed page spreads that maximized interest using original art, custom fonts and a high contrast pallet. One such article (above) about politics and religion featured an original acrylic painting by Joshua Barber—a true work of art with a "day of the dead" theme.
  • Enterprise Virginia Magazine
A statewide ad-supported business publication that contained at least six multi-page feature articles per issue. It was a wonderful opportunity to explore many styles of page layout in each monthly issue.
  • Viewpoint
Viewpoint is a high-quality, two-color newsletter published three times each year. It reaches our 3,000+ members and contains vital news, creative articles and member services. After a re-design by Landis Productions, the newsletter attracted the interest of companies who purchased ad space - helping to offset printing costs of each issue.
